Photo a Day Challenge - 25th May -UNUSUAL

The only thing I could think of is unusual, although others might know exactly what it is.  My Aunt gave me her brass collection to sell.   I couldn't even list this one as I had no idea what it is.  Every time I go to see her I keep forgetting to ask.

It stands just 8 cms high, or does it lay down, or have I got it upside down, I just have no idea! 

Can anyone tell me?
