Save some.....spend some....

I spent some of today sorting out the months supermarket receipts and found online I had saved over £17.00!!  So I am off to spend those vouchers next week.

I will probably treat myself to a bar of chocolate as well as the fruit I adore - grapes, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries....yum.  Hubby will probably add a cake or two into the trolley.  The rest will be put towards whats on the shopping list for this week.

And I have at last found a sideboard I actually love.  I have been hunting for one for over five years!   I like to buy "loved" furniture, not new modern furniture, and the price has to be right and it has to be in good condition.

I am well pleased with this acquisition.   Now I need to decide what I am going to put in it.  I do have a lot of crockery and glasses that I would like to keep and use.  There is also a lot that needs to go to a new home.  So lots of fun now in what to keep and what to get rid of.....

I am back - photo a day challenge - Chair

I am back!  I missed the Photo a Day Challenge - it seemed to make me think of life, rather than what I have to do in a day.  So here I am for todays challenge - Chair.  Thanks fatmumslim for the July challenge.  Hope I can stick to it this time.

Since reading other peoples blogs before I started writing this post, I feel I kinda copied someone's idea of a "chair" for todays challenge. Purely coincidental I have to add.  It took me a long time last night unloading all the stored junk in the spare room off  and around this chair before I could take the photo.

Mine is different.......because

under the seat pad is a pot!   My Nan sat on that, still has the imprint.....just kidding.  When she died some 20 years ago, I acquired it.  My intention was to re cover the seat, but like all things, I still have not got round to it.

I even thought I would take the pot out - because what I really want to do with the chair is to place it in our hall.  Beats sitting on the bottom of the stairs to put on or take off your shoes. It would look quite odd if someone saw a pot hanging under the seat as they come in the front door!

But like all things - this is on my list of jobs to do......

Minced meat anyone?

I remember when we were first married, I bought a Spong mincer with some of the money given to us.  Every time I minced meat, I took it out of the box and set to work by clamping it to the table and putting the handle on with a chosen mincer piece and turning the nut on to hold it all together.  Then when it was all finished, taking it apart and trying to wash the left over fat and mince out of the pieces and getting that cloth into the hole at the top and from side to side, drying it off and putting it in the box again for another day.

Don't know how long I used it for, but it was one day I put it in the box and it never came out again til yesterday.....I had even forgotten where I put it.

I had to clear out a cupboard way up near the ceiling, a cupboard I even forgot existed - and I don't think I have ever opened since we have been here - almost 30 years!

Well apart from the Spong Mincer, the cupboard was full of those Kodak slides, all organised in boxes with labels of my travels in the late 60s/70s and thank goodness the sleeves were still on the boxes........the dust was unbelievable!  I always wondered where I put those.  There was also a slide viewer, a radiator airer and some old children's Ladybird books.

I doubt if I would have gone to that cupboard for at least another ten years, only the lower part is housing our electric boilers for the central heating and we were going to have the expansion tank in the high cupboard, but that is all changed now and it is sitting next to the boilers on the wall in the lower cupboard.  As the top cupboard is now wrecked by a number of pipes going up through the ceiling, I won't be hoarding anything in there for a long time.

Not sure what I will be doing with the Spong Mincer either, I haven't used it for over 30 years, and I cannot see myself be bothering to clamp it to a table again.  Like most people today, I buy my mince straight from the supermarket now - so much easier -
