Rain, rain, please come again.....

Do you remember I mentioned all the blossum on the trees.  This was in May. Was expecting loads of apples.

Its not going to happen.  Oh yes loads of apples, but cannot get enough water in the ground to help them grow.

It has been very dry for weeks and soon it will be too late to save them.  I picked up this jug full from under the tree, and there is hundreds more.  Such ashame.

That is this tree, I haven't looked at the smaller one.  It looks like no apple pies this year!!!  Nor blackberry either, as I dug up a lot of the blackberry vines  at the beginning of the year, as they grow wild in our garden and they were taking over.

Car Boot Sale today...............

I haven't done a car boot for years - used to do one at this place every week for about 12 years selling just books - mostly non fiction.  I gave that up about six years ago.

Today, I thought, I have all this junk accummulating that is of no earthly use to me.  Yesterday, I picked up a roll of black dustbin bags, and a heap of carrier bags and did a tour of the house, sheds, garage and garden and filled the bags.  Some was already in boxes ready to go somewhere but not to landfill, so gathered those up too.

Up bright and early - 4.30 a.m. for me to sit on the patio to watch the day break properly, watching the birds twittering away, and drinking a nice hot cup of tea.  It was so peaceful and cool, I stayed there too long because no sooner it was early it was now reaching 6.00 a.m. and the gates to the bootsale would be opening now.  Quick shower, dressed, gather my float, car keys and off I go.

I had instructions from other half, pick a shady spot, but when you swing into the field half an hour later, all those instructions are gone out of your mind, and I pulled in next to the hedge sideways where there was a little shade but by 8.00 a.m. it was beginning to get hot.

Who would buy this!!  Some people if the price is right.  Nothing sold much over a pound, but then I did want to get rid of it.  I even gave away two piles of magazines and a chipped dish, and a broken broach.

By 10.00 a.m. I was cooking - 30 degrees heat - is not good - so I gathered one of son's cast of cotton tops from the pile on the ground and slung it round my neck - luckily I bought my hat.

Only a steady flow of people - oh I wish I wasn't on my own!! I would have had a field day looking at all these stalls, and spending the money I made on my own stuff.

Around 11.45 a.m. some were packing up, so I followed suit, with the idea when I was all packed up I could wander around the remaining stalls.  The worse thing about being on your own, you can't answer a call of nature.  So bottling that up and trying not to drink any more water, you kinda forget things.

What did I forget?  Ah I forgot to wander round the stalls.....I hopped in the car and drove home.  The first thing my husband said - "Did you buy anything??"  I told the truth - "No".  Who was surprised?  He was!!!

Actually, despite the heat I enjoyed the whole atmosphere again.....and looking forward to another one in August.  I am sure I could find plenty of things to sell.

Son is leaving home.....

At last!!  I never did think it was going to happen.....but the signs are there.  His room looked like a bomb site!!! Piles of clothes everywhere.  Thats only the clothes so far, wait till he sorts his shelves of books, DVDs, Videos, Games, etc. etc.

Unfortunately I have a son that does not throw possessions away - yes he will often have a clear out of the junk mail etc., but not clothes or anything else.  And here were piles and piles, waiting to be bagged for charity shop, grandchildren, hubby maybe and even rags.  I could not believe what I was seeing.

"Mum - not my underwear".  Ha should have moved them. Its the socks I was photographing, looking at them.

Like a little army.....

I have no idea how many - look at that pile to the right at top of picture - loads of black ones and do you know he has only been able to pair 5 black ones and one white, the white one he threw at me and said he doesn't like white!!!

Now what is this pile - don't want them.  Goodness however did he fit these in his cupboard.  He moved into this room seven years ago - seven years hoard of clothes?  And the rest from his young days are amongst them!!! Most of which he hasn't worn for years!

Another pile?  I wonder if I am supposed to sort these?  Leave that til I see him later.

This pile is dumped in my office.  Which means for me to move to the door I got to clamber over them.  Not only this pile but I also got four pairs of jeans which I offered on Freecycle yesterday.

Not sure when exactly he is moving out, but I am looking forward to it - because his room will be our room......whoopee.

Hot Hot day today.....

Now my husband and I are workaholics - me more than him - and for weeks now we have been beavering away without a break and what happens then?  You get over tired , etchy with each other.  Something has to give.

So I suggested we go out for the day - like miles and miles away.  I found this site only a few weeks ago - http://www.wherecanwego.com/, so spent an evening going through the events that might be interesting for both of us.

We found a Village Fete with a carboot sale and a classic car show.

Of course I got to see the cars too.  This Morris Ten was a beauty, look how it gleams.  Hours spent polishing that for the Show.  When I was very young, like early teens, my brother had a Morris Eight. Of course we were too young to drive on the main roads, so spent many an hour just polishing it.

I thought this was an A35, but I forgot to look closer.  Similar shape if it isn't.  I remember in the 1960s travelling down to Swanage in one of these. Oh those were the days.

A Ford Anglia - ah yes, we had one of these - a grey one.  Great car.

I just love mooching around the Car Boot Sale.  Unfortunately this was a very small one with only about a dozen cars.

I bought a big bundle of lovely fluffy towels and a bathroom mat set, all for less than £10.00.  They were expensive towels, and the lady had changed her bathroom colour, hence she was selling her old ones. I am not so fussy, I don't care if they don't match as long as they are thick and soft.  So I was happy.

On the way home we found a nice pub - not sure if we would find this one again, but we made the most of the toilets, a glass of beer and very friendly staff.

Couldn't help but see it as we drove along!

Now you are going to ask me - why photograph the pub front door!!  Well whilst I was sitting near the door - right where I took the photo, the young waiter ducked out this door with two plates in his hand - and you see those two up on the wooden bench, they were waiting for their lunch.  That is the pub garden!

Not unusual you would say to have lunch in the garden but you see the edge of grass and then just outside the door another line - well that is a very busy main road!!!  I said to the waiter, that must be scary taking food across there.  He said many a time he has made a dash across the road and a car suddenly appears from round the bend and thought he was going to drop the food.  He said he is surprised how fast the cars go along here.

Well all in all it was a restful day. Very very hot, but now evening is here it is starting to cool down.
