I have made a start on my quilt - haven't got far mind.
When I decided to "have a go", I found the template on the internet. Great. Then I visited the fabric shop for cheap cotton - couldn't find any - and I was thinking if I did buy new, what if I found this wasn't for me, I would have spent all that money and nothing to show for it!
So I went on our local Freecycle site, just to see what was for offer and I could not believe it, but someone was offering cotton sheets good condition. Now with over 8,000 members, I am not always lucky to be chosen, but as luck would have it, I was this time! And it was very local, within a mile from home, and better still, I chose "blues" as my theme, and these were all blue.
One navy sheet, with a duvet cover in this all tone blue shapes - was I excited - nah not to get on with the quilt, but the fact I got something for nothing! Just kidding.
So here we are some hexies sewn together. Just don't look too close at the stitching. Oh must tell you - you would laugh if you see mne stitching away - and then when I hold it up to see my workmanship - I have two hexies stitched not back to back but back to front. You can see why its taking me longer.
Now this centre piece, still seems a good idea, but how do I get these hexies to look right on a rectangular teatowel. Well first I had this super idea (I thought) till I cut the hem off .....it started to fray big time, so had to go and machine stitch another hem on it. Now the fiddly bit is to stitch half a hexagon and make sure it looks even when done. Still working on that part.
Anyway thats as far as I got - well I have found out that it is stress relieving exercise. I sit there and stitch away with the door closed, shutting out all the other jobs I suppose to be getting on with. I can't see anyone, and they can't see me!
