40th Wedding Anniversary

Wow, where did that time go? We decided that just four of us oldies would go for a meal near Milton Keynes.  It took me two evenings researching for an "ideal place" and I was pleased with the choice.

Oh yes I remembered to order the sunshine and take my camera, what I didn't remember is to take some photos.

The Wavendon Arms is set on the Newport Road near Woburn Sands, with a huge car park.  We had a table at the back where patio doors opened out to the garden.  The staff were friendly and attentive.  We chose to have the Sunday Roast on the menu.

I chose Chicken.   I am not a great meat eater and had intended to slide the chicken across to my husbands plate (me thinking it would be a small piece).  This chicken portion was huge, so my poor husband was ploughing through his pork portion (equally big) together with my chicken portion, plus we had a massive Yorkshire Pudding and the vegetables.

It was a great day out - we had some distance to travel home and on the way back decided to visit another pub for a quick drink and use their amenities.  I wanted to find somewhere that wasn't crowded and where you could park, so several pubs later, we saw this sign on the side of the road "500 yard Pub - Beer Garden".  That 500 yards seem to take forever, when I said lets turn down that road.  A mile or so later and just about to give up, we saw the top of a thatched pub.

There was no customers in the pub, although they said it was busy earlier, but the staff were very pleasant and with our glasses we sat in the garden at the back........

.....with the chickens!!

A word of warning from the proprietor - watch your feet!  They like to peck your toes.  The chickens were very friendly, but I found that my sandelled feet were doing a little dance around my chair - I did not fancy having my toes pecked.

The sign to this pub actually read "500 year pub - Beer Garden" so we were told!

Very pleasant day out on our anniversary.
