Sorting out Family Photographs......

I had always known my mother's family photographs to be stored in boxes when I was a child.  However as she neared her 60s, I found on my visit, that everything had been put into albums with our names (if the album contained us), all neatly placed upright in a cupboard.

Now I am reaching retirement age, I find I am doing the same.  I have a small suitcase, one of those weekend cases of the 1970s, soft leather with a zip.  I "inherited" this from my Nan's belongings when her home was being cleared after she died.

It is full to the brim of my children's photographs, together with what was left of Nan's after my two Aunts had taken what they wanted for their family - not a lot - but there are some of me in amongst them that my Mother sent when she lived in Australia.  Then there is photographs that were sent to me of my brother's and sisters of their children as babies, which really isn't of use to me or even my children as they only remember their cousins as "young adults" and we live on the other side of the world from them anyway.  No doubt I will parcel these up and send to the nephews and niece for their own albums.

So the sorting begins - a good stack of them are from my Nan's second husband's family.  I have scanned the Internet to see if I can find a link to return the photos to, but nothing has come up.  I have found baby photos and I have no idea who they are.

This one intrigues me - by the style of the pram I am assuming it is 1920s.  My father  was born in the 1920s, but I don't think it was him.  He was a cheeky beggar when he was young and this baby photo looks too innocent.

I have a strange facination to this one - as if I really do know the adult he/she has turned into.  And yet I have no idea who.  Unfortunately the family is dwindling and soon there will be nobody to ask.  I can't part with this one so no doubt I will find a frame to keep it with all my other framed photographs in the sitting room.

Not sure how long this project will take, days no doubt, but as my days are rather full, then days will turn into weeks.....but it is another job to be done on my road to retirement......
