Short Break.....

We all need it!  And I jolly well did too ....I had been working so hard the past few months that I was beginning to get grumpy and moany and just feeling out of sorts.

So a few months ago, when a meet was arranged through a book swapping site to visit Weymouth, then why not book up a further three days in a lovely cottage nearby.  I scanned the internet for days looking for the ideal accommodation that would take in a dog as well.

How lucky I was!  I found the perfect place.  Cottages for couples - this was situated on a farm just outside Bridport in Dorset.  The out buildings are all converted into comfortable accommodation.  The floor was flagged stoned (tiled in shower room), decor very French with lots of items from pitch fork tied to the beam, a huge metal trunk for the TV to sit on.  A hook above the mirror, a large suitcase on top of the wardrobe.  (Out came the chair to see if I could see what was in it, but I couldn't reach).  Sheepskin rugs -  just beautiful everywhere and so so clean.

And the view it was superb.  Overlooking a field - which in the morning, you could just jump out of bed (5.30 a.m.), grab a coat, through the gate and a leisurely walk around the boundary of the field (a pathway mowed for your enjoyment).

The Saturday was great meeting up with friends on the beach in Weymouth.   Lots of sand blown in your face, hair, up your nose, in your ears and eyes.  The company was good and a great had by all.

Catching a bus from Bridport to Weymouth and back was the highlight of my day.  I just love bus rides, and what better way when you can use your National Bus Pass.  Great company too on that ride, with a running commentary of the surroundings.  Yes, I remembered it all and I sounded so knowledgeable to my husband on our way home.  I did not let on that I had only been told myself a couple days before.

Sunday was damp in the morning but not enough to put us off visiting West Bay.  The intention was to go to the Vintage Rally, but it was called off - as we already parked we decided to visit the Car Boot Sale.  I didn't buy a thing!  From there we had a leisurely walk to the beach and harbour.  I hadn't been to the seaside for years, so this weekend was a renewed experience.

And so for the journey home on Monday morning, lovely weather in Bridport but half way home hit a torrential down pour where visibility was poor.  We pulled up in a Service Area near a Diner for a loo break, only to be told it was for Customers Only.  So a quick dash to the petrol station, who were more obliging.  But by the time we reached the car we looked liked drowned rats!

All over now.......and looking foward to another short break at the end of the year, hopefully with better weather.
